Honey in Glass Jars vs Plastic Containers?

Honey in Glass Jars vs Plastic Containers?

If you have been following along with our beekeeping journey for long, you will know that Wall’s Honey Co is a strong advocate for selling honey in glass jars. Our family is passionate about environmentally friendly beekeeping practices and to leave our world in a better position than how we inherited it. None of our retail products contain any plastics, and we package them in materials that are gentler on our environment and more readily recycled. Our premium bottled honey is packaged in glass jars with aluminium closures so reusing or repurposing by you as the consumer or recycling is much more energy and output efficient. It is widely reported that glass is 100% recyclable and is actually infinitely recyclable – meaning that it can be recycled again and again. Conversely, not all plastic is recyclable and cannot be produced again and again without a degradation in quality.

With the rise of backyard beekeeping and the abundance of local honey available to us as consumers, it has never been more important to be selective about not only where you honey comes from, but what sort of container it is found in. When we consider food safety it is unsurprising that glass comes out on top of plastic as a long-term storage receptacle. Plastics can degrade over time and leach chemicals into your honey. Long term storage of honey in plastic can cause your honey to spoil, or ferment, as the water content of the honey changes with the introduction of these chemicals.

Our family is committed to continuing to bring our community delicious, pure honey in our signature glass jars.
